10 Locations that Prove there is Heaven on Earth in Switzerland

It is no secret that we are obsessed with Switzerland. The Alps delicately powdered with with fresh snow, year round. The cotton candy sunsets kissing the mountain tops. The pale blue waters grazing lush green grass. Any season you decide to visit will enchant you. From the golden forests in the fall, the glittery winters or the flowery springs and perfect summers, you will never be disappointed. Here are our favorite, most picturesque locations around the perfect country they call Switzerland.


1. Lauterbrunnen


Pretty sure this is the most beautiful place on the planet. There are mountains and waterfalls in the background of this absolutely jaw-dropping little town. Lauterbrunnen is located at the bottom of the Bernese Alps and has docile weather year round, despite being in the mountains. Lauterbrunnen Valley is by far one of the most popular destinations in Switzerland, boasting glacial waterfalls, hiking trails, ski slopes, and quaint villages. This stunning destination is the gateway to the Jungfrau Region and it's often referred to as The Valley Of 72 Waterfalls. The town is ornated with Swiss Chalets that really add to the charm. Bring your camera, because you won't believe your eyes.

2. Locarno

Locarno is a resort city in southern Switzerland, on Lake Maggiore at the edge of the Alps. It has a bright and sunny climate, also the warmest in the country. Known for its film festivals, it is lively and vivacious. The narrow lanes of the Old Town all lead to the Piazza. Castello Visconteo, a castle dating back to the 12th century, lies at the edge of the Old Town. Most Of the city of Locarno can be explored on foot. The Main Square Piazza Grande is walking distance from Main Railway station. There are many amazing restaurants and some of the best hotels in Europe located here.

3. Lucerne

With a gorgeous teal river flowing through this vibrant city and stunning architecture, it will be a trip you will never forget. It is a joy to walk around on foot, or rent some bicycles to get around. You can also hop on to the central railway, to make it around anywhere in Switzerland or connect you to the rest of Europe. Lucerne has hundreds of fabulous restaurants with Italian and French influence. Old Town Lucerne is just mesmerising, with its old buildings and bridges, narrow cobblestone alleyways and medieval squares. Make sure you stop by a chocolatier while you are in Lucerne.

4. Grindelwald

Some of the most jaw-dropping views are in Grindelwald. Chalet Al Foss can be found right here in Grindelwald. If you haven't heard about it, we suggest to hop on to our Instagram. It is a hotel known for its extravagant romance. Rose petals, champagne, hot tubs, breakfast in bed outside. You can find a variety of outdoor activities for any season. The skiing is incredible here, and there are so many fantastic ski resorts. You can catch a cable car to the top of the mountains and see the most magical sunsets and sunrises. Gletscherschlucht is one of the coolest attractions in Grindelwald and you don’t want to miss seeing it. Take a walk through a series of tunnels, walkways, and rocky outcrops as the Lütschine River roars through the 250 million-year-old canyon. You won't regret staying here.

6. Interlaken

Another Nomadic favorite. Interlaken is to die for. The jade and sapphire waters of this lake town are hypnotising. Interlaken is a perfect destination to sit back and relax. Inversely, if you are looking for adrenaline, if you're into river rafting or canyoning, skydiving or bungee jumping, you can find all those activities here. Over 45 mountain railways, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts lead to 200 kilometers of pistes and a dense network of hiking trails. Excursion ships, including historic paddle steamers, ply the waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

7. Lutry

A lesser known paradise is Lutry. Because it is more known to the locals, you will find a lot less tourism in this area. It is a vineyard town, and some of Europe's most delicious wines come from this tiny region. There are endless wineries to tour and enjoy. You can also frequent the quaint cafes and restaurants on the lake, which make for a stunning view. Lutry hosts many medieval castles open to visitors. Some dating back to the 1200's. If you enjoy relaxing on the water, you can partake in sailing or boating on the lake. There are many places to rent boats at the small marinas. Lutry is a low key town, for a more local experience, less tailored to the tourist. It is fantastic, and you will love it.

8. Zermatt

Zermatt is a popular destination for avid skiiers, hiking aficionados, and professional mountain climbers. If you are an outdoor lover, this is the perfect place to visit. The Matterhorn lies in Zermatt. At 4,478 metres, the majestic Matterhorn – certainly the most famous mountain in Europe – looms over the breathtaking Alpine panorama. Zermatt, outside of a nature lover's paradise, is full of life. Its main street, Bahnhofstrasse is lined with boutique shops, hotels and restaurants, and also has a lively après-ski scene. 9. Chur

Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland and has a settlement history of over 5,000 years. It is historic and very much worth a visit. It is a small village town with character. All the buildings are very well preserved and you have amazing views from every part of Chur. Here, you will find cute bistros, wine bars and breweries. There are terrific restaurants and boutiques. For the adventurer, there are a plethora of hiking trails and ski slopes within minutes. The jade colored lakes are stunning. Also, this village is car-free, so everything is in walking distance. There are only 37,000 inhabitants in Chur, and not a well-known destination for tourists, so you can enjoy the crowdless scenery.

10. Bern

Bern may be the capital of Switzerland, yet it still looks like a village. There is a gorgeous river that flows through the city, that is certain to take your breath away. The architecture is fantastic. Beautiful Bern is quite unlike any other city in Switzerland. From its covered arcades to its prestigious title as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is uniquely charming and very relaxed. The shopping here is incredible, with some of the world's best watchmakers and jewelers right here in the city. Make sure to check out some of Berns fondue restaurants, because they are the best in the country. There is something for everyone in Bern, and we're sure you will have a magnificent time.
