South America
Patagonia, Argentina
Patagonia is the Switzerland of South America. Patagonia can be found in Chile, as well as, Argentina. It is a large region known for dramatic mountain peaks, an abundance of glaciers and an array of unique wildlife. Larger than Chilean Patagonia, there are more places to visit and more things to see and do. To reach Patagonia, you'll want to fly through Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) and then take a hopper flight to your desired Patagonian city. Alternatively, you could fly into Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ), Chilean Patagonia's main airport, and cross the border into El Calafate in Southern Patagonia. January and February are peak seasons when average highs breach 70 degrees.
In El Calafate and Torres del Paine, hotels normally operate from the Southern spring to fall (mid-September to early May). Just a few lodgings remain open year-round, such as the Explora hotel. You can find activities for each palate. The adrenaline junkie's heaven, and the relaxer's paradise. Go Hiking in Torres del Paine National Park. Visit the stunning Marble Caves, dripping with color. Check out the penguin colonies. Whale or seal watching on the coast.
